Workshop 1:  Relax into the Holi-daze

Date:  February 2, 2013, Groundhog Day

FawnticeRestorative yoga is a powerful practice that allows you to rest deeply and completely.  With your body draped over props, you will feel held and supported as your body gently surrenders to gravity, allowing your body and mind to unwind as you drop into the sanctuary of stillness and peace that lies within all of us.  Whether you have a strong physical practice, no yoga experience at all, or have chronic injuries or conditions, Leslie will engage her training and experience as a yoga therapist to modify poses for each individual to create relaxation and rejuvenation for every body.

Sound and music have been regarded as healing and medicinal tools across cultures and from the beginning of time, playing an important part in individual and community healing and wellbeing. Modern science has proven that the body’s nervous system responds to sound vibration to induce the relaxation response and meditative mind, reducing stress and enhancing wellbeing. A sound therapist and healing artist who combines her love of music with complementary therapies, Fawntice will be playing Tibetan Singing Bowls and Ritual Bells that she has collected from all over the world.  The music she creates is profoundly restful and deeply healing.

We will end the afternoon with a guided meditation that will give you clarity about what cultivates your inner light and inspires you to shine!

Workshop 2:  Flexibility for increased Mobility

Date:  February 7th

Flexibility and mobility

You may have noticed that you are not as flexible as you once were.  Not only does it not feel good to be stiff, it also limits your mobility and freedom and makes you more susceptible to injuries.  Things that were once simple like reaching overhead can become difficult and/or painful.  The great news is that you can regain your flexibility and create more freedom and grace in your body. Learn how strengthening and stretching are partners that can lead to more possibilities in movement and in your life!

This one-hour lecture is part of the Aging with Vitality & Grace monthly series held on the first Thursday of each month designed to empower older adults as I share my knowledge of conditions that occur in the aging process and explain how to alleviate symptoms through yoga and lifestyle.  I will offer individual yoga/lifestyle modifications and insights, answer questions and provide handouts.  These lectures are open to older adults and to yoga teachers as well.  No yoga experience is necessary.  Immediately following the lecture, older adults are welcome to stay for a yoga class that will be tailored to address the monthly topic.
